Canada into final with professional win

CANADA had few problems as they breezed past Australia and into this year's showcase final against the United States.

The defending champions eased to a 15-6 victory in Manchester and will now play their arch-rivals the US in a repeat of the 2006 final in Ontario.

Many will have expected that match up, but Australia were understandably out to spring a surprise.

But although the men from Down Under led 3-2 early in the contest, Canada raised their game to make it six wins out of six in this year's tournament.

Geoff Snider led Canada's charge with a hat-trick, while Rhys Duch and Kevin Huntley scored doubles as the title favourites had 11 different scorers on the mark.

Ryan McClelland, Mark Steenhuis, Garrett Billings, Dan Dawson, Kevin Crowley, Jonathon Sullivan, John Grant Junior and Brodie Merrill got the rest of the goals as Canada pulled away having been held 2-2 after the first quarter.

Ryan Garnsworthy and Alex Brown both scored twice for Australia and Adam Sear and Gareth Allen were also amongst the goals, but Canada won the second quarter 6-0 for a five-goal half-time cushion.

Australia rallied to win the penultimate quarter 3-2, but Canada scored five unanswered goals in the final quarter to put the contest well and truly out of reach.

Canadian keeper Chris Sanderson impressed with eight saves.
