United States power into semi-finals

THE United States took no mercy on Japan as they powered into this year's FIL World Championships final.

The eight-time winners stormed to a 20-5 victory having started in fine fashion by winning the opening quarter 8-1.

Star player Paul Rabil led from the front with four goals, while Kyle Dixon and Drew Westervelt both scored hat-tricks as the US had the game won at half-time as they led 6-0.

Brendan Mundorf found the back of the net twice, with Kyle Sweeney, Ryan Powell, Michael Leveille, Maxwell Seibald, Ryan Boyle, Alex Smith, Christopher Schiller and Matthew Zash all scored for the title-chasers.

Wataru Tsugu scored twice for Japan and Yusuke Sahoda, Mikisuke Sekine and Yuki Mizutu got on the scoresheet as Japan, finished strongly to win the deciding quarter 3-2.

US keeper Brian Dougherty made three saves and teammate Adam Fullerton made six saves, while for Japan Tomohide Sasaki pulled off seven stops and Takahiko Shinohara produced three blocks.

Japan will now play Australia, whom they upset in the group stages, to see if they can win the bronze medal. It promises to be a belter.
