Calgary Roughnecks
The Calgary Roughnecks are a member of the National Lacrosse League based in Calgary, Alberta. The name refers to the roughnecks who work the drilling rigs in Alberta's oil and gas industry. The team is affectionately known by fans as the Riggers. They train and play at: Pengrowth Saddledome
The Calgary Roughnecks became a member of the National Lacrosse League
in 2001 when they were awarded as an expansion franchise. Since then,
the Roughnecks have established themselves as one of the premier
organizations within the NLL.
In 2004, the Roughnecks won their first League Championship and the
coveted Champion's Cup in front of over 19,000 fans. The
Calgary Roughnecks completed the 2009 season in a bittersweet fashion
again, winning the 2009 National Lacrosse League Championship for the
second time since their inauguration.
